Glory
Jesus gives us God. God is our highest treasure, our greatest delight, our deepest joy. Our most profound happiness is that God loves us, that God knows us, that God cares for us, that God has given himself to us and that we get to live for his glory. Not that we have to, but that we get to. We get to finally do the singular cause for which we were made: to glorify God.
Profound happiness, which nothing can touch. I want that. I want to base my identity in something Someone unchangeable, immutable, eternal. I don’t want love I have to work for; that’s exhausting, painful, frustrating. I don’t want an identity I have to work for; it’s fruitless, it changes with the weather and my mood. I almost killed me, searching for an identity with which I was never going to be satisfied.
Someone said, “No one would love me if they knew all the things I hide.” It’s true. That’s why, God alone is what I need. God alone loves me in spite of the things I hide. He knows them, but He loves me. That’s enough to keep me going. He’s more than enough.
